What is a Nurse Practitioner?

In the state of Texas, a Nurse Practitioner (NP) is required to obtain a graduate degree in advance practice nursing. They are qualified to provide a broad range of health care services without the direct supervision of a physician. Such services provided include, but not limited to, taking patient history, preforming physical exams, ordering laboratory tests and procedures, diagnosing, treating, managing diseases, writing prescriptions, coordinating referrals, and advocating disease prevention and a healthy lifestyle. NPs are regulated at two different levels. They are licensed through their state under state laws and are certified through national organizations with consistent professional practice standards across the state. They are required to uphold their own licensure by continuing education classes in order to maintain prescriptive authority and the ability to practice.

All of our providers maintain current certifications and are continually undergoing education to maintain and update their pediatric knowledge and expertise. Dr. Brown and her nurse practitioners attend one conference a year hosted by the American Academy of Pediatrics and routinely hold lunchtime conferences on various pediatric topics. Rest assured that your child is in capable and caring hands. Our providers have a passion for the care of your children!
